Selby is home to 13 brilliant charities, each fundraising for a vital and unique cause. With our Shop For the Future project well underway, what better time to introduce each charity?

  • Barnardo’s

    • Barnardo's supports children and young people to help them feel safer, happier, healthier and more hopeful

    • Their charity shop in Brayton takes clothing and accessories, books, CDs and DVDs, toys, and homewares

    • Opening times are Monday - Saturday 9am to 4.45pm, Sunday 10am – 3.45pm.

Barnardo’s

  • Martin House

    • Martin House provides free family-led hospice care for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses

    • Their charity shop in Selby accepts clothing and accessories, books, CDs, DVDs and vinyl records, quality homeware (including cushions and crockery linens), and mobile phones, and sells everything for only £1

    • Opening times are Monday - Saturday 9am to 5pm, and closed on Sunday

  • St Leonard’s Hospice

    • St Leonard’s Hospice provides care and support for terminally ill people, and people with life-limiting illnesses

    • Their charity shop on Gowthorpe accepts books, homewares, and clothing and accessories

    • Their charity shop on Ousegate accepts homewares and furniture

    • Book a free furniture collection with them- please make sure that your items are in good condition and pass all relevant safety checks

St Leonard’s Hospice, Gowthorpe

  • British Heart Foundation

    • The British Heart Foundation is the UK’s biggest independent funder of research into cardiovascular disease

    • Their charity shop in Selby takes second hand clothes, books, CDs and DVDs, toys and homewares

  • Cancer Research UK

    • Cancer Research UK funds cancer research by scientists, doctors and nurses, and provides public information about cancer

    • Mama Na Mtoto (The Mother and Baby Project) works to save the lives of mothers and babies in Kenya and the UK by using a holistic approach to healthcare in the community, including supporting local midwives and providing baby packs to young mums

Mama Na Mtoto

  • RSPCA York, Harrogate and District

    • A separately registered charity to the national RSPCA and a self-funded branch, all money raised in their Selby charity shop goes directly to helping the York Animal Home and local animals in need

    • They specialise in vintage and antiques, quirky items, and high-quality clothing at good prices

  • Yorkshire Cancer Research

    • Yorkshire Cancer Research is a charity dedicated to finding new cancer cures and bringing them to people in Yorkshire, so people live longer, healthier lives free of cancer

    • The Selby store takes good quality women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, shoes, accessories, homewares, books, toys, jigsaws, and games

    • Opening times are Monday - Saturday 9.30am to 4:30pm and Sunday 10.30am - 4.30pm

    • Selby SCRAP CIC aims to provide a low-cost source of materials for local groups and people

    • Their shop accepts useable leftover scrap craft materials
