Our Zero Selby Project Set to Bring Big Community Benefits.

Our Zero Selby has received a generous grant of £245k from the National Lottery Community Fund, allowing us to work to reduce the community's carbon footprint, whilst addressing issues of skills, jobs, health, and wellbeing.

During the successful pilot phase in 2022, we engaged the community in shaping the project's direction, resulting in the generation of 25 innovative project ideas focused on five key themes: food, nature, buildings, travel, and consumption habits. These include a community kitchen, a library of things and repair café, establishing fruit trees and herb gardens, and domestic energy efficiency retrofit. These community-driven ideas will now guide Our Zero Selby, rooting the project in the voices and aspirations of residents.

Claire Hetherington, Our Zero Selby Project Lead, expressed enthusiasm about the residents taking the lead in the project's development, stating, "What’s so amazing about this project is how it is being driven and directed by the ideas of the residents, allowing us to deliver the best benefits for Selby, and ensuring it’s what the people of Selby want and are interested in."

Over the next two years, the project will address the issue of climate change by implementing practical, everyday measures that can make homes more energy-efficient, reduce waste and save residents money.

Our Zero Selby is a great opportunity for members of the community to shape Selby’s future, so if you would like to express interest, share ideas or get involved, we would love to hear from you!
