Selby Cycles to Success with the Big Bike Revival 2025
Over the summer, we ran the Selby Big Bike Revival for the 4th year. The Big Bike Revival is designed to get bikes fixed and help people discover or rediscover the joys of bike riding in relaxed, mostly traffic-free bike rides around Selby’s countryside- and this year was no different!
Throughout July, we held free bike fixing sessions at Cogs Cycles and fixed 31 bikes. We’re so pleased to have potentially saved so many bikes from going to waste and helped local residents get their bikes back in working order. We held bike rides throughout August (with one rescheduled from July to September), taking people through Selby countryside in an informal session, with the slowest rider setting the pace so nobody was left behind. 28 people attended these bike rides.
Thank you so much to Tony from Cogs Cycles for all his hard work on our bike fixing and bike rides- the Selby Big Bike Revival truly couldn’t happen without him! Thank you to Selby Cycling Club for getting involved with the bike rides, it was excellent to have them along and benefit from their local knowledge. Thank you also to everybody who came, to fix their bikes or have a ride or both. We hope that you are enjoying your bikes and taking them out for a ride.
The Big Bike Revival is part of Our Zero Selby’s exploration of active travel, looking at how we change the ways we travel for local physical and mental health benefits, improvement of air quality and reduction of emissions, reduction of congestion by reducing cars on the road, and encouraging new skills for residents.
If you would like to get involved with future Big Bike Revivals or have ideas for how to continue bringing active travel to Selby, please contact Matt: matt@upforyorkshire.org.uk.
The Selby Big Bike Revival is an Up For Yorkshire initiative, proudly funded by Cycling UK and the Department of Transport. A key part of the Our Zero Selby events, the Big Bike Revival mission is to empower adult beginner and returning cyclists, encouraging them to embrace cycling as a healthy, safe, and sustainable mode of transportation.
